Christmas Highlights!

Sorry, I missed posting a lot of our fun Christmas highlights so here you go!

All I want for Christmas is....

NO MORE STORMS!!! Yes, we were part of that Midwestern/Plains Blizzard! First we had the ice storm and I fell twice and then we had the blizzard. I don't know if it was two good size ones or one big huge one! It reminds me of the blizzard of 89' back in the Land of Milk and Honey. So crazy to be a parent and worry about the power the whole time and whether or not you will get Christmas Dinner over before it goes out. Or worry about how much toilet paper you have and milk...luckily Jay did a stock up run right before the storm!
All in all we are blessed....Our power never went out. Our Christmas was wonderful and having new toys around was a blessing because we were far from bored. My phone and satellite did not go out and the missionaries were able to make it to our house for dinner and still make it home. AND luckily we live by all the doctors in our town so we are the first to be dug out!

Ice Storm

Moving to the mid-west has presented a list of new things we have never experienced or seen. Added to the list is the infamous ice storms. You look out your window and everything "looks" beautiful and wintry frosted gorgeous...you know like those expensive flocked jobs on the Christmas trees. Well we got our flocked job for free and it looks beautiful!
However as beautiful as it is it canceled school, and Gap Cowboy's first school Christmas party was canceled....it made it so I couldn't go anywhere (not that I had anywhere to go but felt trapped) and I slipped on the deceiving driveway because it looks totally normal but is a solid sheet of ice!
Now we brace ourselves for a blizzard! Hawaii sounds better and better all the time! ; )

Kindergarten Fun

Earlier today was a super secret surprise for the Kindergartners. Jayson and all his friends got bundled up and lined up outside and waited for the big surprise...


What was it....


A horse drawn sleigh ride! He loved it, when they saw it approach they squealed and yelled and cheered. They were all so cute!

Later that Evening....

Off to the Christmas Concert. He looked so handsome in his Christmas dress clothes. We he entered the room his teacher said "Wow, Jayson you look so handsome!" He even had a dab of his dad's cologne.

Waiting...Aren't my guys so handsome!?

Here they come! Jayson sang really good and pulled some funny faces...he even did an "air" guitar! What a funny kid!

Frosty the Snowman!

Now this is a snowman...

I almost ran off the road one day coming come from church when I saw this big guy. I wasn't expecting to ever see such a large snowman. This is just how much snow we have here! Now that is a snowman!

Trying Harder...

Last year after the aftermath of Christmas the Gap Cowboy was reminiscing about Christmas 2008 and past Christmas'. He had commented that although he had had fun this Christmas he had really missed family and friends from the area of the "Land of Milk and Honey." He had missed out on all the parties and family fun, the cooking, the gingerbread houses, the cousins, the fun family memories.
Because of where we live we have to choose when we go "home" and for holidays. We usually select Thanksgiving because typically the weather is a lot better and we don't have to pack up all the Christmas presents for a two days drive.
So this year Jayson and I talked and came up with a game plan to help ease the pains missing those old memories. We planned a series of activities that would include our new friends here.
Armed with the plan I hit the stores while in the "Land of Milk and Honey" for Thanksgiving and purchased some really fun craft kits and activities to do with Jayson and his friends.
I have been working hard to start new traditions, including the "kid" tree because he says he just loved his Granny's tree because her tree had fun kid ornaments. So this year we did a "kid" tree too. (pictured below)
Already we have colored some very cute and treasured ornaments for the "kiddie tree" and frosted sugar cookies with one of Jayson's neighborhood buddies. We have plans for gingerbread houses, Christmas pageant, and several other fun kid crafts with friends...more treasure for the kid tree.
I am trying so hard this year to make it special for him. Although we enjoyed our Christmas last year, there was a small place in our hearts that ached for family and friends and traditions we had become use to. I hope that my little guy will see the fun in making good of our current situation and not forget the fun but decide it is alright to be "home for the holidays."

First thank you to all your kind and sweet comments on my other holiday house pictures. I really love to decorate and I would just love to come and help you out! How about when I strike it rich I will come and help you all, it would be such a joy! ; )

A Bucket List Item...

If you haven't seen the show "Bucket List" then you will be lost on this post...Basically it is a list of things you want to do in life before you "kick the bucket." So Hubby and I have a list that we want to do together. He can have the Raiders game on Thanksgiving Day if I can have the following (with him at my side mind you and if any of you know Hubby you know he would really have to love the person to participate!)

Home for the Holidays

Since we have moved so far from family we will home in our new home for the holidays. Back fresh from a nice little shopping trip with sisters and such I came back armed and dangerous with some fun fun stuff. (Also thanks to the fabulous Mini Bazaar)!
Here is my very much cheaper imitation wreath idea courtesy of Pottery Barn....It was so fun and easy to make.

This is the fireplace, ready for Santa to do his thing! I made some new additions thanks to the Mini Bazaar!
